Dr. Nicole Apelian / Guest Instructor

Dr. Nicole Apelian can be seen on the hit TV show "Alone" on the History Channel, where she lived solo for 57 days on Vancouver Island. She is also a researcher, African safari guide, herbalist, mother, biologist, anthropologist, traditional skills instructor, and educator. Nicole’s passions range from living and teaching basic wilderness living skills (fire, water, shelter, trapping, foraging, etc.) to prepping/emergency preparedness to her deep knowledge of medicinal plants and herbal medicine. She resides in the Pacific NW.
A leader in the field of transformative nature education, Nicole loves to share her knowledge and expertise of nature connection, natural wellness and survival skills with the world, and is an internationally recognized speaker. Her doctorate is focused in Cultural Anthropology and she specializes in ethnobotany and indigenous-based tourism and its role in maintaining intergenerational knowledge in San Bushmen communities. She also is one of the primary guides for her company Eco Tours International (www.ecotoursinternational.com), and specializes in tracking, bird language and wildlife safaris in Southern Africa.
Nicole was an associate at the Okavango Lion Research Project, a 10-year study focused on ecology, reproduction, disease and genetics of these large cats. She has worked as a game warden for the Department of Wildlife and National Parks and the US Peace Corps in Botswana, as a shellfish observer for the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game, and other diverse career paths in the field of biology, education and ecology. She is currently an adjunct professor at Prescott College, and thrives as a personal wellness and life coach (see www.nicoleapelian.com), helping people develop a personalized holistic life plan. She teaches workshops on her land in Oregon and Washington and also travels to teach skills across the globe.
